There's a chill in the air, a lonely howling on the wind. The witching hour approaches, and the nightmares are on the hoof. It's the Halloween season -- for some of us, the most wonderful time of the year. Our taste in entertainment certainly bears it out; we like nothing as much as a good, bone-rattling scare. The countdown is on, and you've got Fright Night fever, Samhain on the brain, Day of the Dead in the head. What really scares you? Is it a lumbering, unkillable maniac with a machete? A Transylvanian dandy who really sucks? Or are you most frightened by the darkness lurking within the human mind -- perhaps the recesses of your own uncharted noggin? We've got something for every ghoul and boy in this assortment of 60 of the most bone-chilling images from pop culture, sure to whip you into a Halloween frenzy -- click on, if you dare. Proceed with caution -- you don't want to be the first dude who goes out to investigate the ruckus in the barn, but you don't want to be the Final Girl either, if you know what we mean. Ready, set -- boo.

Adrienne Barbeau appeared on 95 episodes of the sitcom Maude, starring Bea Arthur, in the '70s -- not a bad gig for an actor. But Adrienne Barbeau is best known as a sexy screen siren, thanks to a quick, intense barrage of films featuring her dramatic and physical talents. From 1980-82, she starred in The Fog, Swamp Thing and Creepshow, and also had significant supporting roles in Escape From New York and The Cannonball Run. It was a good time to be Adrienne Barbeau. Here she is staying hydrated on the set of Swamp Thing with co-star Dick Durock, a 6'5" beast of a man who portrayed the titular movie monster.
