Amelia Earhart Disappears: Original Newsreel Footage, 1937

By | June 30, 2016

This clip from 1937 highlights the days immediately after Amelia Earhart’s plane went missing. The aviator (or aviatrix) who set so many records in her time went missing after attempting the now-infamous world-flight.

The narrator also introduces us to her husband and also her navigator. We also get to see some of the planes sent to search for her. I’m not sure I’d ever seen 1930s footage of aircraft carriers before!

This tragic event won’t be forgotten anytime soon, but it’s old newsreels like this one that bring history to life!
