Albert Einstein (born 14 March 1879 – died 18 April 1955), a German theoretical physicist who developed the theory of general relativity, actualizing a revolution in physics. With this achievement, he is referred to as the father of modern physics; and often in human history, one of the most prolific intellects.

In 1921, Einstein was awarded a Nobel Prize in Physics "for his services to theoretical physics, and especially for his discovery of the law of the photoelectric effect". The latter was crucial in establishing quantum theory within physics.
