The Silver Swan: The 18th Century Clockwork Automaton

By | January 24, 2017

In the 18th century, John Joseph Merlin designed an automaton called the Silver Swan.

A clockwork-driven material, this life-size swan is built with a music box.

When the clockwork is wound, this box plays music. Then the glass rods that rotate gives the illusion of flowing water.

Recently, it is located in Bowes Museum, Barnard Castle, England.
