1920s: Women and their Cars

By | July 28, 2016

During the 1920s, many Americans had extra money to spend, and so they spent it on consumer goods such as ready-to-wear clothes and home appliances like electric refrigerators and radios.

But the most important consumer product of the 1920s was the automobile. Low prices and generous credit made cars affordable luxuries at the beginning of the decade. The Ford Model T, for example, can be had at $260 in 1924. Towards the end of 1920s, cars were practically necessities.

In 1929 there was one car on the road for every five Americans.

Here's a collection of 20 vintage photos from the 1920s that show women posing next to their cars.
