Madonna has always been cool, but before she was the queen of pop she was just a college student at the University of Michigan. At the time she was studying dance in her off time while doing her normal college courses. She even studied at the American Dance Festival during her summers. She only attended the University of Michigan for two years, and in 1978 she moved to New York City.

Even in the Big Apple Madonna continued to study dance, and classes at the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre. It would be another four years before Madonna really became Madonna.
