Ayn Rand's Letter to Her 17-Year-Old Niece Who Wants to Borrow $25 for a Dress

By | May 24, 2016

This letter is one of many in the collection Letters of Ayn Rand. I invite you to read this letter she sent to her 17-year-old niece, Connie, who had recently asked to borrow $25 for a dress.

A later letter suggests Rand thought highly of Connie, which either means she found the dress funds elsewhere, or perhaps she really did get a job to repay her aunt. Rand also says she doesn’t “know” Connie, but I’m willing to bet that’s just Randspeak for, “Sure, we’ve met — but I've yet to know what kind of person you are.”
