Many people consider celebrities to be role models. They are, after all, living their lives in the spotlight. But some celebrities are more than just role models…they are heroes. We bet you didn’t know that these celebrities are true heroes who have saved the life of someone else.

Heidi Klum
While vacationing in Hawaii in 2013, supermodel Heidi Klum and her then-boyfriend jumped into the ocean to save Klum’s seven-year-old son, Henry, and his two nannies. The three were swept into the rough surf and Klum quickly noticed that they were panicking in the treacherous waves. She and her boyfriend dove right in and Klum was quick to pull her son to safety while her boyfriend rescued one of the nannies. Back on shore, Klum made sure that Henry was alright before diving back into the surf to rescue the other nanny.

Matthew McConaughey
The hunky Texan actor saved the life of an unnamed woman back in 2001. McConaughey was at the Toronto Film festival for the screening of one of his upcoming movies when the woman had a seizure. McConaughey sprang into action to offer aid to the woman. When he noticed that she had stopped breathing, he began mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, which saved the woman’s life. When others at the Festival began calling him a hero, the humble Texan shrugged it off, saying, “She needed help and I was there.”

Mark Harmon
Back in the late 1990s, long before Mark Harmon was the star of CBS's hit series, NCIS, Mark Harmon pulled a teenaged boy out of a burning car. Colin Specht was just 16 years old and riding in the front seat of a car driven by his friend, also a new driver. The driver was going too fast and violently crashed the car right by Harmon’s home in the Brentwood area of Los Angeles. The driver was able to escape, but Sprecht was trapped in the flaming wreckage. Suddenly, Harmon appeared with a sledgehammer. He broke out the window of the car, which caused the fire to flame up more violently, but that didn’t stop the actor. He reached into the automobile and pulled Specht to safety, just seconds before the entire vehicle was engulfed in flames. Specht was in the hospital for months while recovering from third-degree burns, but he considers himself lucky that Mark Harmon was there to save him.

Kate Winslet
The star of Titanic was once staying on Necker Island in the Caribbean, the private island owned by the billionaire, Richard Branson when a thunderstorm rolled through the area. With a loud crack, the house she was staying in was struck by lightning. Very quickly, Winslet and others staying at the house realized that the structure was on fire. While others evacuated, Winslet ran into the bedroom where Branson’s 90-year old mother was sleeping. Winslet carried the elderly woman to safety.

Clint Eastwood
A golf fan, actor Clint Eastwood was at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am Tournament in 2014, hob-nobbing with celebrities and professional golfers, when he spied the tournament’s director, Steve Johns. Johns had popped a cube of cheese into his mouth and it became lodged in his throat. Eastwood noticed that Johns was struggling to breathe and turning blue so he jumped into action and performed the Heimlich Maneuver on him. It worked, and Eastwood was able to dislodge the food from Johns’ airway, saving his life.

Prince Harry
In 2012, Prince Harry was playing polo, one of his favorite sports, when an accident occurred. Two of the players on horseback collided with each other and one of them, an American businessman named Bash Kazi, was rendered unconscious. The first person to come to his aid was Prince Harry, who had immediately jumped off his horse and ran to Kazi’s side. He used the first aid training he had received in the military to help until an ambulance arrived.

Jack Osbourne
The day after his wedding in 2012, Jack Osbourne was on his honeymoon in Hawaii when he witnessed a woman in the waves who appeared in distress. She had suffered a heart attack while swimming and was going down. Osbourne rescued her from the ocean and resuscitated her, staying by her side until emergency personnel arrived.

Luke Wilson
Earlier this year, actor Luke Wilson involved in a three-car crash. He was uninjured so he immediately checked on the other victims. He discovered a woman who was trapped in her car. He and a witness to the accident pulled the woman from the wreckage and rendered her aid until help arrived.

Jamie Foxx
Comedian and actor Jamie Foxx is a real-life hero. In January of 2016, a terrible car accident occurred right outside his house. The driver of the car, who was drunk at the time, had struck a drainage ditch and rolled his car several times. The vehicle was on fire and the driver was trapped inside when Foxx pulled him from the flames. Thanks to Foxx’s quick action, the man survived, although he had severe burns to his face and head.
