🇺🇸 "Adoration of a President To Be" featuring the Newly engaged John F. Kennedy & Jacqueline Bouvier on Cape Cod, July 4th 1953. He was the most powerful man in the world, and in the public eye they were a picture perfect couple, but what was really going on in private...? 😈

It's an amazing moment for any couple... that time when you agree to tie the knot and spend the rest of your life together. We always think of JFK and Jackie as a unit, but long before the two turned the White House into a celebrity affair they were coming out as America's first couple.

Two months before their wedding in 1953, the happy couple appeared in LIFE magazine, but were they really all that happy? Rumors about JFK's torrid affairs with multiple women have long been a topic of discussion with historians, but were people clued into his swinging lifestyle while he was alive? And more important, did his wife know?

It wasn't out of the ordinary for people to get divorced in the '50s, and '60s, but political dynasties are like the mafia - once you're in you're in for life. Close friends of the Kennedy's say that they were in love, but that didn't stop him from carrying on with other women... it was just something that men did at the time.

Rather than blow things up and turn their lives into more of a circus than it already was, Jackie's friends say that she chose to be pragmatic about the situation. She preferred privacy over winning the moral high ground, although that must have been a Sisyphean task when gossip columns are reporting about your husband stepping out with blonde bombshells like Marilyn Monroe while keeping a mistress in New York.

If there's one thing that we really know about the Kennedys it's that they were excellent at keeping their private lives to themselves at all costs.

As for the rest of the bio? That’s pure Jacob, baby. He’s obsessed with the ways in which singular, transgressive acts have shaped the broader strokes of history, and he believes in alternate dimensions, which means that he’s great at a dinner party. When he’s not writing about culture, pop or otherwise, he’s adding to his found photograph collection and eavesdropping on strangers in public.
