A jury convicted Kimberly Zapata, a former Milwaukee election official, of misconduct in office and fraud.

Zapata, who was accused of obtaining fake absentee ballots, claimed that she was trying to reveal weaknesses in the state's election system, but the jury rejected her defense. 
 

One felony count

Prosecutors had charged her with one felony count of misconduct in public office and three misdemeanor counts of election fraud in November 2022.
