The lawsuit against James is brought by Ariel Schachter, the former CFO of Northern Leasing Systems, a company prohibited from engaging in leasing activities in New York due to a fraud ruling in 2020.

The allegations include deceiving small businesses into signing lease agreements without full comprehension of the terms and providing misleading information about the agreements. Schachter aims to establish a new leasing business in Texas and is seeking to invalidate the judgment in that state based on James' handling of the case.
