Lasted for hours

In the midst of the UCLA protesters' camp, surrounded by the flickering light of hanging flashlights and the thunderous noise of exploding flash-bangs, OB-GYN resident Elaine Chan found herself in a role akin to that of a battlefield medic.

Amidst a tense standoff that had lasted for hours, police began advancing into the camp.

Chan, a volunteer at the medical tent, recounted how protesters with severe puncture wounds sought help, but the chaotic situation outside made it challenging to transport them to a hospital.
