During a recent Oxford Union debate, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was criticized as an "elite" while she argued that populism poses a threat to democracy in the United States.

Pelosi, a self-proclaimed devout Catholic, expressed that some Americans, whom she viewed as "lost souls seeking answers," reject the responses provided by Democrats on certain issues due to their views on "guns, gays, [and] God."

In opposition to Pelosi's stance on populism, Winston Marshall, a musician formerly with Mumford and Sons who now hosts the "Marshall Matters" podcast for The Spectator, challenged the Oxford Union motion that "This House Believes Populism is a Threat to Democracy."
