King Kong giving Jessica Lange a hand in King Kong 1976

The groovy era is full of eye-bulging, belly laughing, and awe inspiring moments. Wild rock star antics, old school special effects, and the birth of Saturday Night Live bringing us the best sketch comedy in existence, what’s not to love? Collected here are images that remind us of the pioneering artists who not only contributed to pop culture in their heyday, but also built the foundation on which modern entertainment artists stand on today.

Here we have a very stressed Jessica Lange in the grip of King Kong back in the 1976 monster film. It was a (then) modern remake of the 1933 film of the same name. Of all three of the King Kong movies, the 1976 version is the only one to feature the World Trade Center instead of the Empire State Building. It was a commercial hit, in fact, it was the fifth highest-grossing film of 1977 and it won the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects. It was also nominated for Best Cinematography and Best Sound.

I am Mr. Roarke, your host. Welcome to Fantasy Island 1977-84.

Pictured here are Mr. Roarke, played by Ricardo Montalbán and Tattoo (played by Hervé Villechaize) of Fantasy Island. Tattoo would hustle to the bell tower shouting his iconic line: "De plane! De plane!" to announce the arrival of a new guests for each episode. Mr. Roarke, was the island’s man of mystery and intrigue (who only seems to have one name). He would grant the island’s guests all their fantasies... for a price. The Fantasy Island television series was created by Gene Levitt and originally aired on ABC from 1977 to 1984 and then was revived for a 1998–99 season.
