Texas university cuts hundreds of positions, programs to comply with DEI ban

According to school officials who spoke to lawmakers on Tuesday, Texas universities have made significant job cuts or modifications in the past few months following the implementation of one of the most comprehensive bans on diversity programs in college settings nationwide.

Providing the most detailed overview of the impact of the new Texas law so far, the University of Texas system's leader revealed that the nine academic and five health campuses under its jurisdiction had collectively reduced 300 full-time and part-time positions.

Additionally, these campuses have eliminated over 600 programs associated with diversity, equity, and inclusion training. "You may not like the law, but it is the law,” University of Texas Systems Chancellor James Milliken said.
