By | June 30, 2016

Check out these rare clips from 1915 and one from 1919 showing legendary artists Monet, Renoir, Rodin, and Degas working and walking within their celebrated environments. These silent short films focus more on the men instead of their magnificnet works we've come to associate them with, while also giving us a rare peak at their artistic processes. It's amazing these rare footage still exist. Take a look!

Impressionist painter Pierre-Auguste Renoir (1841-1919) filmed at home, working on a canvas. Also present in this rare video are Renoir's youngest son Claude, 14, and Sacha Guitry, the man who made this film in 1915 and who appears midway through the film sitting down and talking with the artist.

Filmed here is Auguste Rodin (1840-1917), the father of modern sculpture working in his studio in Paris in 1915. Included in the four segments of this film is when the sculptor was coming out of the then derelict C18 Hôtel Biron, which the artist used as his studio.
