Archaeologists Find Lost City Sunk by Ancient Tsunami

September 30, 2017Archaeologists have uncovered the ruins of a lost sunken Roman city of Neapolis off the coast of northeastern Tunisia that was destroyed by a Tsunami on July 21, AD 365.
Neapolis— which means New City in Greek—was an important ancient city whose remains are now scattered across the coastal Tunisian town of Nabeul.
Researchers started looking into the existence of the ancient city in 2010, but it was only this summer, thanks to favorable weather conditions, underwater city was uncovered. The ruins stretch over 50 hectares.
